Located only a few miles from its “sister” site at Lloyd Harbor, Nike site NY-23 was yet another three magazine Nike missile installation. This site, however, became operational fully two years earlier, during 1955. Site NY-23 was one of nine New York Defense Area Nike sites which were not upgraded to operate with the far more capable Nike Hercules missile system. The site was inactivated during 1963 after eight years of service.
