NIKE SITE NY-60R

Concrete foundation for a radar. Photo: Don Bender

Site NY-60R was one of three U.S. Army remote radar sites associated with the Nike missile batteries protecting the New York metropolitan area. The site was presumably constructed to provide enhanced radar coverage of the southern portions of this once heavily defended area.
Although the site location is listed as South Amboy, it appears that this radar facility was co-located with the IFC Area of Nike missile battery NY-58 in Old Bridge Township.

Location
Former Nike Battery NY-58 IFC Area Old Bridge Township, NJ.

Dates of Operation
1958-1960

Units
Army –
Radar Section #1, 52nd Artillery Brigade

Current Condition
The IFC Area was demolished although foundation remnants could still be seen when the site was first visited a number of years ago. Construction of a large scale residential development has been initiated on the site.
